PERSONAL USE
CHARLES R. FOSS (BYRON CENTER, MI) 2/3/2010 8:33 PM
The drive overall is essentially very good. Gripes: 1. Until very recently, the drive was formatted for FAT32. It takes a good 18-plus hours to reformat it to NTFS. My last purchase arrived pre-formatted for NTFS. 2. Quality control of the new drives being shipped is fair. The problem: Multiple drives that have been received were defective right out of the box, containing two defective internal WD 1TB disks that were replaced by WD under warranty. Another drive (that has not been returned under an RMA yet but will be) apparently has a defective control module and cannot be detected by any MS operating system. Recomendation: Some drives received defective either were shipped in this condition, pointing to poor quality control or went bad while in transit as the result of rough handling. Possibly better packaging should be used.
